Lonohana | O'ahu Chocolate Bar
$16.00Product Details
When your cacao is this good, there’s no need for frills. Lonohana’s 70% Hawaiian Dark Chocolate is composed of just two ingredients: 70% estate-grown cacao and 30% organic cane sugar. The first bar that Lonohana ever produced, it continues to be a stand-out. The cacao beans’ careful roast expertly holds the balance of flavors, a trademark of Lonohana’s North Shore of Oʻahu-grown beans. A go-to bar for vegans, world-class chocolate connoisseurs, the sustainably-minded, or anyone at all who enjoys chocolate.
Impact
Lonohana Chocolate is made by the same people in the same place where the cacao was grown. This is a rarity. Structured to be a vertically integrated chocolate company, Lonohana controls the entire product cycle, from their 100% Hawaiʻi-grown cacao to the world-class finished product hand-crafted in small batches in Honolulu. They’ve set out to prove that chocolate can be honestly and peacefully produced and maintain complete transparency in their business practices. They also focus on regenerative agroforestry and have transformed barren, abandoned sugar cane land into a thriving plantation which provides jobs for locals across the process, from farm work to chocolate sales.
Meet the Makers
Lonohana cacao is farmed on the North Shore of Oʻahu; straddling the 21st parallel, the farm is one of the northern-most cacao plantations in the world. These special beans are harvested and brought to a solar-powered factory in Honolulu where Lonohana chocolate is made in very small batches (approximately 350 bars per batch). The family-owned company was established in Hawaiʻi with the mission of putting the islands on the map as a superior origin for world-class chocolate, and have largely succeeded.
