Product Details
It’s not Madagascar, nor Tahitian, this is rare 100% Hawaiian-grown vanilla beans from The Vanillery Kauaʻi. “Grade B” when referring to vanilla does not indicate anything less than superior, but rather signifies that this vanilla is ideally used to make homemade extract, as these beans have a lower moisture content and are therefore a more concentrated source of the vanilla flavor. Sustainably produced without any chemical treatments, this are real and remarkable vanilla beans.
Impact
The Vanillery Kauaʻi practices permaculture and sustainable land management to farm their vanilla. They use no chemical pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers anywhere on the property. In a world where less than 1% of vanilla flavor comes from actual vanilla orchids (and the rest is derived from vanillin, the main flavor component of cured vanilla beans, which is synthesized with elements such as petroleum and corn starch, yuck!), this rare Kauaʻi vanilla is extremely special.
Meet the Makers
On a 2 1/3 acre homestead in a quiet neighborhood in Kapaʻa, vanilla grows. Roland of The Vanillery Kauaʻi didn’t intend to cultivate the spice, but it showed up on the land anyway, and once propagated, it thrived. Yielding vanilla with a rare flavor profile distinct to the region of Hawaiʻi, The Vanillery is proud to be at the forefront of an emerging vanilla industry in the islands.
