Lydgate’s single-origin cacao nibs are steeped in Kōloa Rum for up to 18 days and then refined with organic cane sugar to produce this completely Kauaʻi-made dark chocolate. The warm and nutty notes of gold rum were destined to mingle with bright and extra smooth dark chocolate–it is a match made in paradise. An exceptional bar for any chocolate lover; the finished product contains no alcohol.
Impact
The Lydgates have a history in Hawaiʻi that spans back to the 1860s. They strive to produce high quality products from specialty crops on a small scale. Heedful to the well-being of the land, malama ʻaina, they also use organic fertilizer to build soil health. The Lydgates plan to continue their family’s legacy of supporting sustainability efforts for the benefit of all future generations.
Meet the Makers
The Lydgate family are stewards of a 46-acre farm in Wailua, Kauaʻi. Five generations deep in the heritage of Hawaiʻi, they are now a staple of the local agricultural community and a leader in the emerging Hawaiian chocolate industry. The family-run farm offers educational tours of the grounds to visitors and locals alike and continue to explore further avenues of sustainable crop cultivation.
